With almost 15 years of experience in the Sioux Falls School District, I understand the daily frustrations and joys associated with educating children.  South Dakota has great public schools but we can do better. It is sad that South Dakota continues to be at the bottom of national rankings in public education.

Based on limited education funding, dollars must be managed, allocated and spent properly for ultimate results.  All existing and new programs should be evaluated for effectiveness by the educators implementing and using them to ensure the best outcome for students.

If elected, I will support and fight for in increased funding to our public school systems.  This additional money should be used for effective and accountable programs to improve student learning, along with better wages for all school staff.  Education is worth the investment!

Gun Control

Gun safety laws are needed.  The majority of people support background checks, registration and other public safety regulations. The biggest hindrance to these types of laws comes from big and powerful organizations that bully and  “bribe” politicians to stop any type of legislation that does not favor them. This is not about taking away your second amendment rights, it’s about political power and corporate greed.

In South Dakota, we take care of our neighbors and communities, we should all want common sense gun safety laws. While there is no magic button to solve the problem of gun violence, don’t we owe it to ourselves, our families, our schools, our state and our country to try to fix the problem? Problems are not fixed by indifference and inaction. If not now, when?  Now is the time to work together for common sense gun reform!

Recreational Marijuana

My opinion on this issue no longer matters.  The people of South Dakota voted.  Unfortunately, the law was ruled unconstitutional based on a wording technicality.  The language of laws must be carefully examined to prevent this type of situation.  Too much time and money has been wasted to resolve this issue.  We will vote again in November to legalize recreational marijuana.  Assuming the same result, we will then have to determine best practices for our state and its people.

The decision to have an abortion is between a woman, her family and her doctor.  The government should not be involved in any way.  If Roe v. Wade is overturned, we should allow abortions to protect the mother's life, for cases of rape or incest.    (Read More)

LGBTQ+ Issues

I believe everyone deserves to be treated with respect.  I have three children.  When people ask whether they are boys or girls, I reply with "I have one of each".  My middle child is nonbinary.  While it was not been an easy journey, I have learned that the only thing that truly matters is that they are healthy, happy and alive.  I am a proud LGBTQ+ ally.  If elected, I will fight against hateful legislation and fight for strong legislation to protect the rights of all.   (Read More)
